Help Mark name his new guitar
February 19th, 2010Mark bought a new guitar (a 1987 Fender Strat with Lace Sensor pick-ups) and he can’t figure out what to name it(her). He has this rule where guitars are named after famous female guitarists from the country of origin for the guitar. His Jazzmaster is named Yoshiko after the guitarist from Japanese surf group The 5.6.7.8’s.
He’s thinking Corin (after Corin Tucker of Sleater-Kinney), Nina (after Nina Gordon of Veruca Salt), or Liz (after Liz Phair)… although those ladies don’t really play Fenders .
Or maybe Courtney after Courtney Love of Hole. Love actually has a signature Squire guitar (which looks like an ugly Jagstang), and early on played Jazzmasters.
The most appropriate ones would probably be Kelley Deal (Breeders) who plays Strat w/ Lace sensors, Bonnie Raitt who has her own signature model Strat.
He hasn’t named his Mexican strat either.
Help him out!

Goodbye to Jessica Tucker, for just a little bit
January 4th, 2010Our merch lady extraordinaire will be heading across the continent at the end of January to go work for Disney World for a little bit. It’s a tremendous opportunity for her, but we will miss her. However, probably not as much as her husband our sound guy, Josh Tucker. To celebrate her and to wish her off well we’ll be putting on a show in her honor. I can firmly promise you all the bands we’re playing with are top tier. Some of the best bands that the Arizona music scene has to promise you. There are a couple more I wish I could add into the bill, but each one of these is easily in my top 10 list of favorite local bands.
Â
Mergence - We’ve grown to enjoy this band quite a bit. We have and will continue to profess our strong admiration for Adam Bruce’s lyrics and melodies, Yod’s guitar lines, Jason Roedl’s bombastic but consistent drums and Jason Fingar’s bass lines. Their stellar sound is a mixture of remarkable band chemistry and thoughtful song-writing. Think Zeppelin, with Beatle songs.
The Haymarket Squares - Another one of our favorite local groups. The Haymarket Squares take punk to a place it has seldom gone before, bluegrass. They have mixture of punk energy and irreverence with an ornate folk charm which they call punk-grass for the people. They’re the only band in town that can have people nodding their heads and dancing along to left-leaning politicking.
Â
Sister Cities - With their nifty mixture of garage, surf, and sunny pop, the Sister Cities feel like they could be from the mid 60’s California scene. Yet, the Sister Cities have a modern sensibility that is very now. Think a better version of the Raveonettes, or a more aural version of the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, or a leaner British Sea Power. Whatever you think, they’re a great show.
…and of course we’ll (Seven Car Pileup) be playing as well.
We hope to see you there!

Playing The Marquee Theatre, Opening For Cage The Elephant
December 10th, 2009Tuesday we were fortunate enough to be able to play an awesome show at the Marquee Theatre (our first time at the venue), opening for the high energy rockers Cage The Elephant. They showed that they’re more than their radio rockin ”Aint No Rest For The Wicked”, and we feel they have lots of potential.
We’d like to thank Gadger, and the rest of the staff, at FM 103.9 who have been incredibly supportive of this little band. Thank you very much for the tremendous opportunity.
We especially want to thank our fans for sticking with us up to this point. We couldn’t have done it without you. It’s been a long rewarding journey, and we plan to keep at it. We’ll do something like this again real soon.
Catch Up With Seven Car Pileup
November 6th, 2009How have you guys been? We’ve been good. We’re keeping busy.
We had an awesome time playing with Authority Zero. The stage set-up for the night was very nice. It was also very cool to have our friend Michael Broyles playing piano on a few of the songs.Â
We have some cool shows on the horizon. Both cool for different reasons.
This Saturday in Glendale we’ll be playing at Westgate Shopping Center in the Fountain Park. It’s free, all ages, and close for all you west valley folks to come and check us out. We may have a new song or two since you’ve seen us last and this is a great opportunity to experience it for free. We hit the stage at about 6pm and will be done at 9pm.
Next Thursday we’ll be rocking socks off at the posh Scottsdale rock club Dirty Pretty. Come out for an awesome night of music at a really nice bar. We go on at about midnight.
The third Thursday of this month we’ll be rocking with Black Carl and Boston’s Crash Kings. Crash Kings are an awesome band that bridges the gap between the piano rock of Ben Folds Five and the garage punk of The White Stripes. We’re very excited the share the stage with them. This all goes down at Craftsman Court in Scottsdale. Listen to FM 103.9 for more details.
